I’m just an average man, with an average life. I work from 9 to 5, hey hell I pay the price.
Nah, just kidding. Those are actually the opening lyrics to Somebody’s Watching Me by Rockwell. I can’t get the song out of my head for some reason (Tell me whose watching?).
While I am just an average guy, I definitely do not work from 9 to 5. My site is aptly named as I really am domaining 365.
And I couldn’t do it any other way. I see and hear domain name ideas everywhere I go and in all aspects of my life…family, music, food, politics, products, relationships, technology, spoken catch phrases and on and on and on.
Though I bought my first domain in the 90’s, my early infatuation with domains unfortunately did not result in any great purchases. Domains were more a novelty then and very few grasped what would happen and how the internet would explode.
Back then I thought entertainment domains would be a sure thing, so I bought a few Hollywood related .coms. The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences was not pleased with one of my purchases, feeling in their heart of hearts that AtTheosCars.com was really AtTheOscars.com in disguise (what a strange coincidence). Their attorney conveyed their rather official stance on the matter to me on very nice letterhead.
After reading the contents I immediately felt the urge to develop a simple site about hitch hiking. I used my state-of-the-art double-brick-sized Sony digital camera to take a picture of my thumb, then used MS Paint to create eyes and a harried look then saved it as a .jpg and voila! Theo The Thumb was born.
Theo was a hippy wandering thumb who used the domain AtTheosCars.com to post pictures of the cars that had picked him up for a ride and to tell of his many exploits hitch hiking around the world. That Theo had some good times…
Funny thing is that I’ve long since let that name expire, and as I am writing this, attheoscars.com is available once again. One of these days Theo may just find himself home.
I really do hope you stick around and get to know me through my blog, and that you find something in my writings that connects with you in a lasting and positive way. And if not lasting and positive I’ll settle for light and enjoyable. Am looking forward to hearing about your domaining exploits on twitter, the post comments and via email.
Cheers,
Tom Garrett
